BEGINNINER ART CLASSES NEW BRAUNFELS

If you've always wanted to paint but didn't where to start, we have art classes in New Braunfels just for you! Whether your interest is in Watercolors, Oils or Acrylics, you are sure to find just what you are looking for at Casa de Linda Art Center this fall.

BASIC ACRYLIC PAINTING (on-going)

These are the "jump-in anytime" on-going painting classes that I've been teaching at my studio since 2004. They will now be held at the new Art Center location. New students start with landscapes and learn a ton about mixing colors, getting different effects and so much more. The fall schedule gives you several options: Wednesday nights 6:3-8:30; Thursdays 12:3-3 p.m.; Thursday nights 6-8:30; and Friday mornings 9:30-12. Seats are filling up fast so let me know ASAP if you want to jump in!

INTO TO WATERCOLORS

Maren Phillips will be teaching this 4-week introductory class this fall at Casa de Linda Art Center. Classes meet from 9 a.m.-Noon on Tuesdays starting Sept. 14. This is a great class for anyone who has ever wanted to explore watercolor painting. You'll learn about color theory and experiment with the process of watercolor, trying several types of papers, brushes and techniques.

INTRO TO OIL PAINTING

Maren will be back in October to teach this 4-week course that will again be held on Tuesday mornings starting Oct. 19. Maren will explain and demonstrate techniques and the students will complete 3-4 paintings and a color study.

For more information visit the classes page at casadelinda.com.

STAINED GLASS CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS IN NEW BRAUNFELS

With the expansion of Casa de Linda, I am thrilled to be able to offer even more classes in more topics. One of those new additions for the fall at the new Casa de Linda Art Center will be Basic Stained Glass. Local master craftsman Lynette Clauser will be setting up a stained glass workshop in back studio where she will be offering basic classes for both adults and children ages 10-16 this fall. In the spring, we hope to add more advanced classes to the schedule.

Lynette is the owner of Creative Hands and has been in business, first in Gruene and then downtown New Braunfels and has over 25 years experience in the field. She has taught all levels and is excited to once again be teaching and sharing her love and expertise for this ageless craft. Classes begin on Sept. 13; both day and eve schedules are available. Go to the Casa de Linda website for a full schedule and to download a brochure with registration forms.

BLUEBONNETS SELLING IN ENGLAND!

I just love that my Texas Bluebonnets are selling on watches in the UK! (If you bought one, thank you!). I want to remind my fans and friends that I also have an online store where you can purchase a number of products with my wildflowers, including note cards, ornaments, mousepads and even t-shirts for the dog! Just go the Casa de Linda online store, browse the dozens of designs and products and load up your cart. You can even match some of the watch designs as you can see from the mug and tile coaster I've posted today that are very similar to the timepiece being sold this month on UK TV.

Check out is easy and secure. Plus, every purchase comes with a money-back guarantee. Want to see what's available as original art? Visit my online gallery and enjoy touring the current selection of wildflower art. If you live in Central Texas or you're planning a visit to New Braunfels, be sure to check out our NEW gallery opening Sept. 1. See the previous post for more information.

CASA DE LINDA ART CENTER NEW BRAUNFELS OPENING SEPT. 1

We've been working on something really big for the last month and I'm ready to start sharing the news with everyone. Casa de Linda is expanding! We've rented a 1200-sq-ft retail space at 850 South Business IH 35 in New Braunfels where we are setting up two teaching studios and a small gallery/gift shop. We will be open for business on Sept. 1.

David, my husband and partner in business, life and love, has been working overtime getting the place ready while I finished out the Summer Art Camp program at my studio. It's great building but has been around for awhile and was a little neglected and mistreated by previous tenants. But David's been giving it lots TLC (several coats of paint, a thorough cleaning and several layers of wax on the floor) and now it's looking great. I'm posting a before and after photo of front room (which will be the main studio).

It took a lot to cover up that awful green but David did it! This will be much more conducive to our classes, plus it's going to be great for showing off my Wildflower Art and artwork by other artists whose works we'll be exhibiting in our gallery.

We are dubbing this new location: Casa de Linda Art Center. This was after much debate. I "tried on for size" the name Casa de Linda Art School and even went to print with that name for the Fall 2010 Class Brochure. But it just didn't fit and after the order was placed, I came up with Casa de Linda Art Center. (So when you see the brochure, you'll know why it has this temporary name.)

We are keeping the Casa de Linda Studio upstairs at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery where I'll continue to teach, mostly children's classes. This has been my "home" since 2004 and I'm not ready to leave yet! It's also just such a great place to teach children and to introduce them to the world of art as they walk through the beautiful NBAL Gallery downstairs!

The two studios at the new Casa de Linda Art Center will be in use for a wide variety of art classes for adults and older children. To make this happen, the staff has expanded from one (yours truly) to four teachers for Fall 2010: Maren Phillips (who will be teaching Intro to Oil, Intro to Watercolor, Basic Drawing and Advanced Drawing); Lynette Clauser (offering Basic Stained Glass for Adults and Stained Glass Fun for ages 10-16) and David Jacobson (offering Basic Photography and Advanced Photography for Adults and Basic Photography for ages 8-12).

We have a full schedule of art classes, which is now posted on the Casa de Linda website. You can also download a complete brochure, which includes registration forms for both the children and adult program.

Starting Sept. 1, Casa de Linda Art Center will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment. We are planning an Open House for the Sunday after Labor Day, Sept. 12, from Noon to 5 p.m. Come join us and help us celebrate!

LIBRARY COMMUNICATIONS AWARD

It was my honor to have recently been recognized for my PR and Marketing work with the Tye Preston Memorial Library (Canyon Lake, Texas). The staff nominated me for the award, given by the Alamo Area Library System. I'm shown above accepting the award from Roxanna Deane, left, and Bette Wehner, right. Also receiving awards for work as government officials were Comal County Commissioners Donna Eccleston, center, and Jan Kennady, shown with me in the photo below.
