MIAMI ART SHOW REPORT

As you may know, David and I flew out to Miami after Thanksgiving weekend to check out some of the art shows that turn Miami upside down the first of week of December every year. While there, we visited Art Expo Solo, the main objective of our short trip, plus Red Dot and Art Miami. We arrived on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in time to take in the opening gala for the Solo and Red Dot shows. We returned on Wednesday for another visit and to walk the mammoth Art Miami. Unfortunately, we had to leave early Thursday morning, the same day that many of the other shows opened.
This Miami art phenomenon started about 10 years ago with the first Art Basel, an international, high-end show that attracts artists, art collectors and celebrities from around the globe. Generally held the first week of December, Art Basel started a trend of art shows that has grown every year, filling up empty lots with pop-up galleries and hotel rooms with hundreds of guests. (Here's a view of Miami at night from our room on the 16th floor of the Marriott Biscayne Bay.)
We were there to check out Art Expo Miami, which is put on by the same people who do the long-running Art Expo NYC every year. We want to see what it was all about and get to meet, face-to-face, with reps of the company. (David and I at the entrance to the Solo show. It was held in the same building as the Red Dot show. And I need to mention that we had a celeb-sighting of our own...Jane Seymour! Yes, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, who is also an artist. I mustered up the courage go up and talk to her as well but drew the line at asking for a photo!)
While we've done shows in NYC several times (Art License Expo International and Surtex), our objective in the past was to promote the licensing of my wildflower art. We had talked about doing the Art Expo but had not taken that step...until now. After walking the shows and meeting with the reps, we signed up for Art Expo NYC that's scheduled for March 22-25. I'm taking my wildflowers to the heart of Manhattan! We'll be in the Solo portion of Art Expo, in booth #1145. The last photo posted here is a night-time shot of one of the many palm trees draped for the Art Miami show. Look closely...these are men's, long-sleeve shirts! I just love artists!! We look forward to returning to Miami for next year's shows and to have a little more time to check out the city! Our 2-day+ trip only whetted our appetite for both. We took out a little time to walk the downtown area and spent a few hours at a market overlooking the bay. Can't wait to check out the art deco buildings and Coconut Grove. So much to see...so little time. We will be back!!

News: Cafepress store closed

I've decided to close my Cafepress store (www.cafepress.com/casadelinda). This was the print-on-demand site where you could order products with my wildflower paintings, and more recently, my husband's photo images. Both David and I have been increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of the products and service. We do appreciate everyone who has purchased from the store over the years. I'll be looking for a new source to be able to offer my wildflowers on products in the future.

ART-2-GOGH PAINTING PARTIES: CACTUS AND GRUENE WATER TOWER

Just thought I'd do a quick post about this coming weekend's ART-2-Gogh Painting Parties. On Friday night, we'll be painting one of our most popular paintings: "Cactus in Bloom." I knew when I first came up with this art that it would be a hit...and it is! It's surprisingly easy to paint when you follow along with me!
On Saturday night, we are painting the Water Tower at Gruene. Of course, you can make it any watertower you'd like. We've had folks put the word "Texas" instead. You could even put your own hometown or football team (for me, I'd want to write Floresville Tigers!). The parties start at 6 p.m. and end around 9 p.m. We provide the canvas and everything you need to finish your work of art. You can bring a bottle or wine or beverage of your choice. We have complimentary water and coffee. Learn more at www.art-2-gogh.com or give us a call at 830-624-5302.

HOPE YOU FIND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

What brings folks to this blog varies greatly. Some of you are looking for me, Linda Calvert Jacobson The Wildflower Artist. You found me! I started this blog in November 2005. I can't believe that it's been 6 years now! When I started, I would mostly post about my life as an artist, about my wildflowers paintings, life in the Texas Hill Country and about when and where you could find me and work at various art shows and events. At the same time, I was teaching from my studio in downtown New Braunfels and would sometimes post about classes coming up.

Over the next few years, my wildflower art really took off and I made my way to several licensing shows in New York and, later, California. Signed with an agent from the UK and soon my paintings were being featured on watches being sold on TV in Europe. Many, many of you have found this blog by searching for something like: Linda Calvert Jacobson watches. Thousands of my watches have been sold over the last 4 years and am I'm honored by the fact that my art brings such pleasure and joy to so many people.

Then last September my husband and I decided to expand the studio and rent a second location where we could do more with classes and even add a gallery. That was the beginning for Casa de Linda Art Center. Many of you who happen upon this blog get here by searching for art classes in New Braunfels, or something like that. I try to keep a link in the right column that will take you right to our main business page for Casa de Linda Art Center.

This fall, we are pleased to offer adult classes in stained glass, oil painting, watercolors, acrylics, photography, drawing, Zentangle, paper mache and pastels. For the kids we have several painting class options for ages 5-16.

At the beginning of this year, we introduced our ART-2-Gogh Painting Parties. Hundreds of people have already experienced our fun evenings of painting and socializing, especially designed for adults. We provide everything you need to finish a large painting, you just come and enjoy yourself. It's a BYOB so feel free to bring a bottle of wine and even snacks. We'll provide the napkins and corkscrew, as well as coffee, tea and water. The ART-2-Gogh Painting Parties are held on most Friday and Saturday nights for open seating or can be scheduled as private parties if you have a special occasion to celebrate or just want to share the experience with some special friends.

On September 10, we'll be celebrating our first year for Casa de Linda Art Center with an open house. We are planning to have artists' demos, complimentary refreshments and a few special deals. Plus it will be opening reception for our fall show, "Eyes of Texas," a photography exhibit. If you are in the area and not already on our e-mail list, but would like to be, please click here to sign up so you can keep up with our latest news.

So did you find what you are looking for? Hope so! You can also follow me on Facebook. Click here if you'd like to LIKE my artist page. And/or you can click here for the Casa de Linda Art Center FB page.

Thanks for visiting!

APRIL CLASSES: OILS, WATERCOLOR, PHOTOGRAPHY

Can you believe that March is almost over? It's starting to "green up" in the Texas Hill Country and the wildflowers are popping out. I love Spring, don't you?

We had a wonderful Spring Open House and Artists Reception on Sunday. Visitors enjoyed seeing the Blooming Wonderful Art Exhibit, watching demos by Leila Reynolds (silk painting) and Lynette Clauser (stained glass), talking with artists and sipping on wine. The kids (and adults, too), had fun at the make-it-n-take-it table where they designed bookmarks and doorhangers.

Several people signed up for classes and ART-2-Gogh Painting Parties and many picked up our new, hot-off-the-press, Summer Camps-n-Classes schedule. We'll have the 2011 online soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to see what we are offering, just contact me and I'll fix you up.

NEW! ART-2-GOGH PAINTINGS PARTIES AT CASA DE LINDA ART CENTER-NEW BRAUNFELS

I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our newest program: ART-2-Gogh (tm) Painting Parties at Casa de Linda Art Center - New Braunfels! While the program is new, it really just combines several things I've been enjoying for years...teaching painting, local scenery and wine!

First of all, for the last several years I've been teaching "paint along" style of instructions for my children's classes, and, might I add, with great success. Everyone is always so impressed with the student's paintings, I began thinking about offering a similar class for adults.

Secondly, I've always had a deep appreciation for all things Texas (afterall, I am a native Texan), so painting bluebonnets and oak trees is just natural. Add to that Gruene Hall, the Water Tower at Gruene, the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake and the Plaza in downtown New Braunfels and you have a great little gallery of Texas Art!

And finally, students in my adult painting classes have found that a little wine can sometimes take the stress off the day and make the painting experience even more enjoyable.

So...

For the last several months I've been working on a series of paintings that adults would enjoy doing while sipping some wine and visiting with friends. Instead of spreading the classes over several meetings and several weeks, I've worked out the instructions so that you can finish a painting in 3 hours or less. Plus, I've set it up so all of the supplies, canvas, paints, brushes, are included. You bring your own wine or beverage (coffee, tea and water are complimentary), we'll provide the cups and corkscrew! The fee is $39 for one person or $60 for two. Again, that includes ALL of the supplies!

The Painting Parties are scheduled for Friday nights, 6-9 p.m. and Saturday nights, 7-10 p.m. To celebrate the introduction of this new program, I'm offering a 2-for-1 special...pay $39 and bring a friend for FREE! Check out the calendar for January and February posted on this blog, pick a date and make it a date!
