Blazing Gavels auction, classes

BLAZING GAVELS FOR PBS

I like to support worthy causes and KLRN, the San Antonio PBS station, is just that. For the second year, I'm participating in the KLRN Blazing Gavels auction. This year, I'm donating 10 gift certificates, each good for $75 toward a purchase of art or toward art classes/camps at my studio in downtown New Braunfels. They will be auctioned as part of the "one-a-day" promo. Be sure to tune in June 12-21. Click here to read more about the auction and even bid online!

SUMMER ART CAMPS AND CLASSES

After a short break, I'm ready to start up my classes again. Plus my summer art camps start this coming week as well. I offer a wide range of classes and camps. Here's a news release with more info:

Casa de Linda announces summer art camps, class schedule

Ten new art camps with themes ranging from “Prehistoric Times” to “A World of Design” will be offered at the Casa de Linda Art Studio this summer. Taught by local artist Linda Calvert Jacobson, the week-long day camps will start the first week of June and continue through mid-August.

Jacobson started teaching acrylic painting for children and adults at the New Braunfels Art League in 2003. The following year, she rented a studio space above the NBAL Gallery and began offering summer art camps, in addition to her year around painting classes. She also offers drawing and experimental painting classes.

“Each year I try to offer something new and exciting for my students to experience. I’m really proud of the new projects and topics and I’ve come up with for this summer,” Jacobson says.

Five different art camps are designed for ages 5-9 and for ages 8-13. At the end of each camp, students are awarded a certificate of completion.

This summer, children ages 5-9 can choose from topics such as “In the Garden,” “Down by the Sea,” Let’s Get Buggy,” “Tropical Safari,” and “Prehistoric Times.” Each camp will include drawing assignments in preparation for projects, which range from painting to paper maché. Camps for this age groups are held Monday-Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Art camps for children ages 8-13 are planned according to different mediums with each camp including a discussion of famous artists as it relates to the topic. Camps are held Mondays-Thursdays, from 1-3 p.m. with weekly topics that include: “Ready, Set, Draw!,” “Painting - Land and Sea,” “Painting - Experimenting with Color,” “Art in 3-D” and “A World of Design.”

In addition to the week-long art camps for ages 5-13, Jacobson will be offering special 2-week art camps for ages 13-adult this summer. “You can Draw” is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, June 9, 13, 16 and 18, from 4-6 p.m. “Experimental Painting Techniques” will be held on July 7, 9, 14 and 16, also from 4-6 p.m.

Jacobson’s ongoing acrylic painting classes will also continue during the summer with the addition of a Tuesday evening class for adults and Saturday classes for ages 10 and up.

“The camps for ages 13-adult and the painting classes for ages 10-adult offer a great opportunity for a parent or grandparent to take the class with a special young person in their life,” Jacobson says. “I’ve had had father/daughter combinations, step mothers with step daughters, and even big sis and little brother. It’s a wonderful way to bond while having a good time learning something new.”

Registration is currently underway. Seating is limited to six students in the painting classes and no more than eight students in the camps. Fees vary. For a full brochure and registration form, contact Jacobson at 830-624-5302 or e-mail linda@casadelinda.com.
